It may have been rainy and cold the weekend of March 3rd in Wuhan, but regardless, one hundred players from four different Universities and three different cities showed up to kick off the the ultimate frisbee season with the Second Annual Central China Ultimate Clinic.
        This year, Miranda Roth, a former Team USA coach, along with a team of expat coaches from Shanghai, including Matt Knowles (Sockeye), Jon Greenberg (Bravo), Alec Hutson (Carleton), and Amanda Granger lead a two day clinic featuring a coaching clinic, a skills clinic, and a day of scrimmages.  Captains learned how to effectively plan a season and run high quality practices while everyone practiced basic ultimate skills such as throwing, catching, timing cuts, marking, and defending.  The scrimmages on Sunday mixed the players between four different teams to provide a chance to socialize and play with at least one of the coaches.
        The clinic marks an all-around effort by the Central Chinese community to become more competitive with teams from Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.  Ultimate Frisbee has been growing exponentially in the universities in Central China, but often times the coaches and captains are inexperienced with high-level play.  The clinic provided an opportunity for the leaders of Central China ultimate teams to learn how to constructively grow teams into competitive forces as well as an opportunity for the players to see what they could become if they continue to play frisbee often and practice hard.

        The article would not be complete without a discussion of some of the highlights:

 - The Shanghai coaches all went  nuts for re gan mian (woot Wuhan!)
 - Bieke arrived 4 hours late on Saturday after partying with his Changsha buddies the night before.  Yet somehow Zhangfan was on time.  
 -  Matt and Miranda both went home from dinner early after Matt ate some mystery meatballs (Was it fish or buckwheat? We will never know).  After a night of puking they arrived chipper and ready to go the following morning.
 - KISS. KISS. KISS. KISS
 - "Americans have a healthy appetite for beer," says Wang Lai after legitimately out-drinking Jon and Kevin. (Really Impressive ... Wang Lai, Jon said drinks are free if you ever go to SH. Just Saying.)
 - A big thanks for Air Woo for providing fields and food

CUG's A-team upsets a depleted China National Team to take third place in their hometown tournament.  Shanghai and Hong Kong finish first and second respectively.  

Thank you to Air Woo for a wonderful job organizing this annual tournament.

CUG held a clinic and exhibition game at the Wuhan Foreign Language School during the National Holiday. 
The Wuhan Foreign Language School (lead by Zach and Kevin) defeated CUG handily.  The Wuhan Foreign Language School is the first high school team in Hubei and one of the first in mainland China.
